The Small Tapered Honing Stone is a compact skate-maintenance tool for removing light burrs left along the sides of a runner after sharpening. Its narrow tapered shape gives the user controlled access around the heel, toe and curved sections of goalie or player steel where a large flat stone can feel awkward. Used correctly with light, even pressure, it helps finish the edge without replacing a proper sharpening.

Small tapered honing-stone features

  • Compact tapered profile: The narrow shape is easy to position along curved runner sections and tight areas near the holder.
  • Post-sharpening edge care: It is intended to remove small side burrs after the hollow has been cut.
  • Controlled hand use: The smaller surface encourages light, deliberate passes instead of aggressive grinding.
  • Goalie and player steel: The tool can be used on conventional uncoated hockey runners when an appropriate stone is required.
  • Portable maintenance item: Its compact size makes it easy to keep in a sharpening drawer, coach bag or emergency repair kit.
  • Not a sharpening replacement: A honing stone cannot restore a damaged hollow or repair severely rolled edges.

How to use a skate honing stone

Dry the runner and inspect both sides under good light. Hold the stone flat against the side of the steel and make a few gentle passes from heel to toe. Avoid rocking the stone onto the sharpened bottom edges, and do not apply heavy pressure. Coated or mirror-finished steel may require a rubber stone or leather finishing method instead, because an abrasive stone can mark the surface.

For coated runners, compare the Nash Rubber Skate Stone for black steel. Finish delicate surfaces with the Nash Leather Chamois Cloth, and protect spare runners in the Nash Blade Pouch.
