TRUE uses NEUROFIT+ carbon-fibre construction in the higher-level Nitro, 7X6 and 7X4 skates represented in this collection.
The one-piece shell is designed to provide a close, supportive fit and transfer movement efficiently from the foot through the holder and blade.
Carbon-fibre construction can feel more structured than the composite shell used in 5X models. Goalies should have enough strength and ankle movement to use the skate comfortably.
NEUROFIT Composite Goalie Skate Shells
TRUE’s 5X4 and junior 5X6 skates use an injection-moulded NEUROFIT composite shell. This provides a different stiffness and price level from the carbon-fibre NEUROFIT+ construction.
The composite shell may be more suitable for younger, recreational and developing goalies who need support but do not require the stiffest available boot.
TRUE MotionCuff Ankle Mobility
MotionCuff is used on selected higher-level Catalyst skates to increase movement around the top of the boot.
Proper ankle flex helps a goalie:

- Move between standing and post positions

Ankle mobility should not be confused with a loose fit. The heel and foot should remain securely positioned while the ankle moves through the intended range.
TRUE Postlock for Post Integration
TRUE’s Postlock feature creates a defined area on the skate for connecting to the goal post. It is intended to help the goalie establish a secure post position and drive away during lateral movement.
Postlock does not replace proper RVH technique. The goalie must still maintain correct blade position, pad connection and body alignment around the post.

How Should TRUE Goalie Skates Fit?
TRUE goalie skates should fit closely around the heel, midfoot and forefoot. The foot should not slide inside the boot during lateral pushes or recoveries.
During fitting, check that:
- The heel remains seated in the back of the skate
- The toes are not painfully compressed
- The forefoot has appropriate width
- The instep is secure without numbness or excessive pressure
- The ankle can flex into a goalie stance
- The foot does not move independently from the shell
- The tongue lies smoothly over the foot
- No severe pressure point develops around the ankle or forefoot
TRUE skates are designed to fit closely and can change noticeably after proper heat moulding. Heat moulding should refine a correctly selected size, not compensate for a skate that is too short, long, narrow or wide.
Measuring for TRUE Goalie Skates
Everyday shoe size should only be used as an initial reference. Hockey skate size, foot shape and preferred fit can differ considerably from casual footwear.
Useful measurements and fitting information include:
- Length of both feet
- Forefoot width
- Heel width
- Instep height
- Total foot volume
- Current skate brand, model and size
- Current pressure points or heel movement
- Playing level and frequency
Measure both feet because one may be slightly longer or wider. The larger foot normally determines the minimum required length, but both skates must still hold the heels securely.

Selected TRUE skates are available in regular and wide options. Width affects more than the widest point of the forefoot.
Heel shape, instep height and overall foot volume influence whether regular or wide is appropriate. A goalie should not move into a longer size solely because the current skate feels narrow.
Similarly, a wide skate should not be used to solve pressure caused by incorrect lacing, a folded tongue or the wrong footbed without first reviewing the full fit.
Heat Moulding TRUE Goalie Skates
Selected TRUE goalie skates use thermoformable materials that can be professionally heat moulded around the goalie’s foot.
Heat moulding can help:
- Wrap the shell around the heel and ankle
- Improve contact around the sides of the foot
- Reduce minor pressure points
- Improve heel retention
- Create a more secure connection between the foot and boot
Heat moulding cannot add substantial length, completely change the boot’s volume or make an incorrectly sized skate appropriate.
Have the skates moulded by an experienced hockey retailer according to TRUE’s current instructions.
How Much Growing Room Should a Young Goalie Have?
Some growing room may be appropriate in junior and intermediate skates, but excessive space can reduce control and create foot movement.
Oversized goalie skates can cause:
- Heel lift
- Blisters and internal rubbing
- Reduced edge control
- Lost energy during lateral pushes
- Unstable post integration
- Difficulty recovering from the butterfly

Goalie Skate Sharpening
The best sharpening depends on the goalie’s weight, strength, blade profile, playing style and preferred balance of grip and glide.
A deeper hollow generally creates more bite, while a shallower hollow generally provides more glide and easier edge release.
A sharpening that is too aggressive can make it difficult for a lighter goalie to release an edge. A hollow that is too shallow may not provide enough grip for strong pushes.
Begin with a consistent sharpening and make small changes. Avoid changing the skate, blade profile and hollow simultaneously when possible.

Caring for TRUE Goalie Skates
Remove the skates from the equipment bag after every practice and game. Loosen the laces, pull the tongues forward and allow the boots and liners to dry completely.
Remove wet blade guards and wipe moisture from the steel. Inspect the skates regularly for:

- Holder movement or damage
- Rust, chips or cracks in the steel
